Looking for a change??

FRESH Colorist Jose Aponte understands when his clients need a change.   Lisa is a perfect example. Her hair is naturally dark brown, almost black, he says.  This past summer, Lisa wanted to go light, an easy change that gave her a great look in those warm months.   To add interest, Jose even added golden caramel hair painting using Goldwell color.  But summer has ended and the sun, chlorine and other elements caused Lisa’s color to fade, and become brassy.  It was time again for something new!

For Fall, Jose changed the base, creating a rich dark brown to match her natural color.  To get rid of grey, he added bold highlights and then toned it all with a red violet toner.  The look:  perfect, he says. Lisa now has contrast, but it’s not as light as it was in the summer.

Lisa’s makeover wasn’t quite complete.  To finish it all, FRESH Stylist Cris gave Lisa this stylish cut which accentuates her color.  This FRESH client can also wear her hair curly, adding yet another great look, says Jose.

Lisa, you look great! Can’t wait to see what you do for Winter!

Back to school. Back to work. Back to routines. It’s almost that time. But as you say goodbye to summer, it’s time to think about that new style you’ll embrace this fall.

We’re seeing plenty of cool trends in hair color. And while you may be tempted to keep your color routine, there are new ways to approach color in the fall of 2016.

Take Color to a new depth: Richer and deeper. That’s the trend we know as Raven Black.   Stars like Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner have embraced it and rocked it! The look is rich and dramatic.

Creamy Blonde: Think Kirsten Dunst. This beautiful look will get you from summer to fall with the hue you love. Less platinum, creamy blonde is soft and natural looking.

Opposites Attract: Mix it up. In the fall, try dark roots and light hair. It’s an edgy look embraced by Chrissy Teigen and Michelle Williams. Perfect with dramatic lips and eyes, this combo will make a statement.

The Problems with Pinning!

How-to-Change-Hair-Color-in-Photoshop-Thumb1.jpg

It rolls off our tongues. “I saw it on Pinterest.” And while the pictures, pins and people delight all of us, the truth is, Pinterest is just one way to pick your next style.

Yes, Pinterest is the “go to” for ideas. But it can’t replace a consult with a stylist.

Remember, some of what you see on pinterest is photo shopped. The pictures can be enhanced and changed. That beautiful creamy blonde, may be blue in another picture, and auburn in yet another.

At the end of the day, nothing beats a face-to-face consultation with a Fresh Salon Stylist. We love to see the pictures that show the styles you love, but by actually looking at your hair, and talking to you, we can tell you how realistic it is for you to get the same look. And more importantly, we can keep it real by telling you honestly what you’ll need to do to keep it up and what it will cost to maintain that coveted new style and color.

So come in. Bring your phone. Show us what you’ve pinned. But let’s talk too!

11051907_10203949501637590_6427191922669258622_nJose Aponte can thank his mom for the career he now excels at and loves.

His passion for hair began quite simply:  At home doing his mom’s color in the kitchen sink.

“When it was over, and she loved, her hair, I felt good and was thrilled I was able to help her feel great about her look,” he said.

Jose grew up in Youngstown, OH, and attended college in Alexandria, Virginia.  He worked as a photographer, but realized quickly that it wasn’t his passion.  He wanted to make a difference in peoples’ lives.

“I always enjoyed being creative and making people feel good about themselves,” he said.

11035843_10204334770189063_3183267803165131147_nJose eventually moved to Charlotte with his partner, now husband, and in 2011 decided to live his dream.  He attended and completed beauty school at Empire Beauty School in Matthews.  Then, through friends, Jose applied at Fresh, and got hired.

“Julia saw something in me and gave me a chance.  My first months at Fresh were amazing.  I was learning so many new things.”

That was nearly five years ago, and Jose continues to learn.  He is a fan of Goldwell color classes and ARROJO styling classes.  Jose offers Silk Lift Highlights, Color Blending and Color Locking Treatment, among many other services.

12079624_10153196709570886_79798144778413783_nJose says he loves balayage, a low maintenance form of highlighting.   Balayage, which means sweeping or painting in French, allows anything from subtle shades to high drama.  Fans of balayage love the natural look!

Jose’s favorite client is that person who is willing to take a risk with color, a person who wants to try something different.

“That’s the one fun thing about hair color is that you can change it up!”

TRY IT TO BELIEVE IT

You’ve got to see it to believe it. Pixelated color is emerging as the trend sought after by cutting-edge women around the world. Is it off the wall? Not anymore. Creative? Definitely. Interesting? Absolutely.

Pixelated styles are brightly colored hair trends, inspired by computer screens and video games. Pixelation features asymmetric patterns wrapped around your head. Literally. The look is futuristic and fun and is garnering the attention from teens to moms to Hollywood A-listers.

Goldwell artist Jeffrey Moffett recently visited Fresh Salon to show stylists the latest trends in Pixelated color. Think of the process as artwork, with stylists using a template, creating patterns of any size and any combination, then using that template to create designs and hues within your hair. It works great on straight hair, on flat parts of the head, so that all can see the artwork and imagery.

There are some stylists who just look cool! You know what I’m talking about. The person you see in the salon, and think, “That’s who I want to do my hair!”

Kaia Selitti is that kind of stylist. She has a vibe, years of experience, and a desire to continue learning.

The mother of two young girls, a puppy named Georgia and a cat named Vicious, is a Goldwell educator. Working and learning with the Goldwell team is a prestigious opportunity, because as a Goldwell educator, Kaia has an inside look at the latest trends and how to perfect them every time for every client.

“One of the things I love about our industry is bouncing ideas around with other stylists. We do this at Fresh, and now I have a larger group to collaborate with as well,” she said.

Part of her Goldwell education includes learning the latest trends in coloring, how to improve a client’s hair and experimenting with the technology that only Goldwell can bring.

The trend today? Subtle shading that enhances color and delivers superior results. Kaia can do it all, from traditional color to Color Blending, Men’s’ Reshade and Elumen, an innovative technology delivering texture control and mega shine without fading.

“When my clients tell me that they love their hair and that I made their day, it makes me fee
great,” she said.

Now that June is here, Kaia is excited for wedding season and will spend much of her time helping brides prepare for the defining moment when they walk down the aisle.

“When a bride trusts you with her big day, that speaks volumes. Watching a bride get a first glimpse of what the rest of the day holds is a special feeling,” she said.
