Finding the Perfect Brush

Round.  Square. Vented.  How do you pick the perfect brush?  And should you have more than one? Turns out a hair brush is like a make-up brush.  You need more than one.  You wouldn’t use the same brush for eye make-up and blush, and you can’t count on one hair brush to create volume or straighten your hair.  Here are some basic usages for brushes we love from ARROJO, all available at Fresh Salon:

 

 

Round Paddle Brush:  A mixture of nylon and boar bristles make this a great brush to straighten and smooth hair.  If you’re looking to kill the frizz, try the ARROJO Round Paddle.

 

 

Medium Round Brush:  Perfect to add volume, this brush is great for for mid-length hair.  Wrap hair around the brush and you’ll create soft curls without using a heated styling tool.

 

 

Detangling Brush: No one wants to pull and damage wet, tangled hair.  This brush has nylon bristles and and will help you smooth your hair easily.  Go from the shower to the mirror and brush with ease using the Wet detangling brush.

What To Eat for Healthy Hair

Want shiny, gorgeous hair? Then get serious about what you put on the table! Here’s what experts say will work to boost more beautiful hair:

Greens:  Dark green leafy vegetables like spinach are packed with nutrients.  Spinach has vitamins A and C, iron and beta carotene that promote moisture and a healthy scalp. Add them to your sandwiches and wraps as beauty builders!

Salmon:  For shine!  For sure!  It’s packed with healthy Omega-3 fatty acids and helps grow hair and keep it shiny. 

Chia Seeds:  You’ve heard about healthy fats.  Known as Super Foods, Chia seeds are known to boost energy, but it’s also believed they can promote circulation, which is good for your scalp!

Lemon:  Lemons are packed with nutrients like Vitamin C. Why is that important to your hair? First, Vitamin C will boost collagen production, and help your hair grow faster. And secondly, it’s important to maintaining great hair structure.

Whole Grains:  Want strong, healthy hair?  Experts say eat a variety of whole grains.  Make it easy by simply choosing brown rice over white rice.  It’s rich in vitamin b and can help reduce the chance of hair breakage.

Meet Nick ARROJO

We’re proud to be the Charlotte Ambassador salon to feature ARROJO products. We love them all! But who is the stylist behind the name?  Nick Arrojo has more than 35 years of experience and is known as an industry icon. You might remember him as the hairdressing host for TLC’s “What Not to Wear.”  ARROJO, originally from the UK, worked for Vidal Sassoon, Wella International, Bumble and Bumble and today has three salons in New York City, with a staff of more than 150 people.  He believes that education is the key to success and is determined to share his talent with other promising stylists.

And that’s where we come in!  Did you know Arrojo has actually spent time with our stylists, training members of our team at FRESH Salon?  In addition, we send our stylists to New York to train at Arrojo’s cosmetology school, so that we can bring you the very latest and most exciting trends in hair styling.

Our Favorite Thanksgiving Recipes

It’s a favorite holiday for so many of us.  Thanksgiving.  No gifts, no debt, no decorations.  Thanksgiving is about gathering around the table and spending time with the people we love.  At FRESH, we’ll celebrate the day just like you… making memories with friends and family. 

Here are a few favorite recipes that we’ll share on this special November day:

From Tara:

My favorite dish is stuffing.  And I love it with apples and cranberry.  Adding these ingredients to traditional stuffing gives this iconic dish just the right amount of sweetness!

From Regina:

Pumpkin Cheesecake!  It’s the best I have ever had.  My family loves it too!

Recipe:

• 12 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
• 2 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
• 2 ¾ cups sugar
• 2 lbs. cream cheese, softened
• ¼ cup sour cream
• 1 15 ounce can of pumpkin puree
• 6 large eggs at room temperature, and lightly beaten
• 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
• 2 ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
• 1 tsp. ground ginger
• ¼ tsp. ground cloves

From Emily:

I love good ‘ole Southern Homemade Gravy!  And on Thanksgiving, make my vegetables a casserole!  Our family devours them… for days!

Giving Thanks.  It’s that time of year, and at FRESH, we are taking a moment to remember how grateful we are for our friends, family, and of course for FRESH!
